MIKE WENDLAND: Ouch! Onion now skewers TV news (Detroit Free Press)

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 06:13:21 PDT
It's hard to imagine anyone who hasn't heard of The Onion, the venerable spoof site that parodies newspapers and other print media. But for the past year or so, the same folks who do the Onion print products and Web site have been cranking out the fake Onion News Network to do the same thing for TV journalism. It's now getting major traction.

SportsLink: Summer holds key for Cougs in the fall

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 06:42:24 PDT
COUGARS First, an apology. I should have posted the unedited version of today's story here last night. I honestly can say I just forgot. I intended to, but as grandma used to say, the road to heck (any good grandma wouldn't cuss) is paved with good intentions. So please forgive me. Read on for a link to the story and quite a few other ones ... •••••••••• • Last week I sat down with assistant football coaches Chris Ball and Todd Sturdy in their offices and chatted about spring football, summer

More Witless Self-Contradiction from the Discovery Institute

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 06:42:25 PDT
The two most recent blog entries on Evolution News & Views (the primary function of which is to spread pro-Intelligent Design propaganda) are both by Robert Crowther. I could not help but notice that these sequential blog entries by the same author directly contradict each other - and I suspect that Crowther is ignorant of the contradiction. This happens frequently over at the Discovery Institute. I recently pointed out that ID proponents, on the same DI blog, reject the evidence from bree

My Last Day Here at Buzz Networker

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 06:42:58 PDT
So today is my last day here at Buzz Networker. Between working on my Masters in Digital Media Study, working full time as the social media strategist and community manager for a white label social media company, and everything else I have on my plate it is time for me to walk away from some freelance assignments. I want to thank everyone here at b5media for helping me establish myself in this field and letting me play in this space. In the next few months I hope to launch a social media con

A different kind of bug

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 06:43:14 PDT
Fagbug! What an awesome story of someone taking an act of hate and turning it into something positive. From a news article covering her story, and the rainbow makeover courtesy of Volkswagen: “Fag Bug has become much more than when it started. And to be able to transform it into something positive, rather than have people look at my car and be upset and hurt, I’d rather they look and see how bright the colors are, see something fun and playful instead of something hurtful,” Davies said. McCain Tour Goes To Youngstown

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 06:43:27 PDT
Day Two of another John McCain tour ... The "Time for Change" tour heads to Youngstown State University today. Snippets of McCain's speech, given at noon, are available after the jump. Expect more Dems-will-raise-your-taxes talk: "Raising taxes on businesses in Ohio and elsewhere, as both my opponents propose to do, will not bring the old jobs back, and it sure won't create new ones." It's a big news day in politics, with the Pennsylvania primary and all. And I've been left recently in the

Transfer Market Musings- I swear to God this will not become a regular thing

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 06:43:35 PDT
After missing yet another live Juventus game this weekend due to court-mandated university-mandated community service (Thank god it was the last one) I am finally back. And I know there is nothing worse than someone constantly spouting market bullshit (ah, our love-hate relationship with Goal.com) and that’s why I promise this will not be a regular thing. But a brief review of this weekend: (more…)

According to a Roman Catholic priest who was there and who emailed VOL, othe

Earth Day in Michigan

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 06:44:03 PDT
Green Frog Reflection by Pine Photography It's Earth Day ... pretty much all over the earth. The official Earth Day site is more or less overwhelmed, so we'll have to wander around to find out what's up. Wikipedia says that the story goes that the first Earth Day was spearheaded by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson who - after seeing a major oil spill off Santa Barbara in 1969 - went back to Washington and passed a bill designating April 22 as a national day to celebrate the earth. 38 years l
